The paper discusses the necessity of performing visceral differentiation of insomnia cases from the relationship between emotion and insomnia. Visceral pathogenesis, with the pathological mechanism of the occurrence, development, change of visceral pathology, interacting with each other, as the main body, occupies an extremely important position that cannot be ignored. Insomnia could be divided into emotional hyperactivity and emotional lack by furthering analyzing its causes and pathogenesis, among them, emotional hyperactivity contains: depressed (liver-qi stagnation pattern), dysphoria (liver-fire disturbing heart pattern); while emotional lack covers: palpitation and unease (Qi deficiency of heart and gallbladder pattern), overthinking (heart-spleen deficiency pattern), and dispirited (fiver-viscera deficiency pattern).
